Steamy Summer Mornings

We're in our tenth day of temperatures over 90 degrees, and that delightful Georgia humidity that redefines the meaning of "Big Hair."  At 8 o'clock this morning, I broke out in a sweat picking blueberries!

There's been very little rain at home, but the Big House got one of those violent pop-up storms last night that dropped a couple of inches of rain in a very short period.  As a result, everything was incredibly lush and refreshed this morning.

The "Chilly Chili" peppers are coming into their glorious summer color....they're great for heat in a recipe, and we use them in a lot of containers, as well, since their color holds until frost, going from ivory to yellow to orange to red.
The Mission Olives love this heat, as does the Mother of Thyme that surrounds the trees.

The incredible summer blooms make the heat and humidity much more tolerable, though......

  4. We have had some of it. It is so oppressive the dogs just turn around on the porch and come back inside. We have a cool front that just started to move in and maybe that will eventually affect you. Your flowers are doing great. The bouquet looks great and I am not familiar with the red bloom. I am sure it is a tropical.

  5. It has been really hot the past few days....the blooms do make it better...I've had fresh cut flowers in the house everyday for a few weeks now.

  6. The red flower isn't really a tropical, but hardy only to Zone 6. It's Crocosmia "Lucifer," which is a workhorse once established.

  7. We have had the same thing in Charleston. Hot and steamy, but that is why we live here. Excellent skin from all the moisture!

  8. Summer is here & I am so ready. Portland had the coolest & wettest spring on record.
Today is low 80s & no humidity. Perfection.
