Plant ID Needed
This really beautiful vine just appeared along the creekbank at the Big House. Unfortunately it is slowly going up and over the azaleas, though in a very delicate way. The flowers are exquisite, but it's looking a little like a wisteria relative to me. I haven't called the Extension office yet, but anyone have experience with this one?
Wisteria can be beautiful, but in Atlanta it can also be like kudzu with pretty flowers!

couldn't it be a variegated bleeding heart?
ReplyDeleteTim, I can't say for absolute certain about the leaves, but it looks an awful lot like Vigna caracalla, the corkscrew vine.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find an answer. The foliage and the form of each blossom remind me of Wisteria frutescens, but that color and the way the flower cluster is formed lead be to believe it is not. You may have found the next great vine.
ReplyDeleteSusan is right...vigna caracalla; corkscrew vine, snail vine. It's a lovely thing, but not hardy.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a winner, unless it becomes invasive.
