The Next Hundred Days

The sun is shining brightly, the snow is melting quickly, and things seem to be returning to an Atlanta winter, at least for the next several hours (they're forecasting more light snow tonight).  I'm still holding out hope that in 100 days or so, my garden will be back to what it was at that time last year.

  1. Tim, I keep thinking that you are going to be on the garden tour. You must be going crazy wondering how much (if any) damage this horrible weather has caused. Hey,...at least no ice storms.

  3. You have no idea how concerned I am about the potential damage from this winter. At this moment I am trying to decide about putting up a fence around the back of the property, since I think the osmanthus hedge will need to be cut back substantially. Fortunately the nature of the Master Gardener tour is educational, so I'm going to "make lemonade from lemons," and highlight whatever damage may occur, rather than trying to mask it. Time will tell.....

  4. I love those purple spider plants in the third picture. I think that is what they are called...My Mom used to grow them.

  5. Cleome is, in fact, called Spider Flower very often. It's a favorite of mine, as well. In 2008 I had four; you can see what happened in 2009, by doing nothing except letting nature take its course. Since we've had a particularly wet season so far, they'll probably be sprouting in the garden across the street by April!

  6. Tim, "Turning Adversity Into Advantage" is my motto too. Mother Nature is only testing you. Highlighting how you deal with it shows the true "Gardener" within. My other motto "Don't Let Them See You Sweat" ;) - G

  9. It is 60 & sunny this week in Portland, Oregon.
The Willamette Valley is a great place to garden...
The bulbs have already poked their heads up & the hydrangea (I collect hydrangea)has set buds. I really enjoy your blog. Thanks for sharing. Here is a link to some pics of my
